Choosing a Timeless Wedding Colour Palette

Look at the venue first

The room, architecture and landscape already have a colour story. Observe wall tones, floor finishes, natural light and surroundings, then build a palette that complements the setting rather than competing with it.

Choose contrast with care

Warm whites and soft stone tones create an elegant foundation, while muted greens, blush, terracotta or deep berry accents can add depth. When the base palette is quiet, one stronger colour can become a signature.

Use texture as another colour

Linen, velvet, handmade paper, candlelight and natural florals make a palette feel more layered. Combining matte and reflective materials can create a rich visual experience even when the colour selection is minimal.

Consider light at different times of day

A palette photographed at noon will feel different at dusk or under warm evening lighting. Test samples at the venue if possible. Your planner, florist and lighting team can help coordinate these shifts.

Keep the look consistent, not identical

Use recurring tones across ceremony arrangements, reception styling and printed details. Every piece need not match exactly; a little variation creates a more natural and sophisticated result.

One final guideline: Choose colours you will still enjoy looking at in your wedding photographs many years from now.
